Week 34: Solvang

May 31, 2021

We had a fun last day of the transfer. We all got together at the park and played signs. It's a cool district we have here, but the next one will be good too. Afterwards we all went to the church to hang out and talk to our families. After some shopping and a light dinner of two cheese dogs, we hit the road. I felt invigorated going into the new transfer, it kind of gives us a fresh start to make goals and improve, even if we aren't going anywhere. I'm very hopeful for the transfer ahead and the people we're teaching.

First day of the month, first day of the transfer we had a good time, worked hard and got pretty sun-burned. We are really going to chase down every lead we have this transfer. We did service today for a nice old lady named Carolee. We also did some service for the Bethania Lutheran Church, where we helped out with the food bank. Had a good rest of our day, and I'm really tired.

It was a productive day, we had about 3 1/2 hours to walk around in this amazing weather, I'm getting a pretty good farmer tan. We talked to a bunch of nice people, who frankly are probably too comfortable to look for more in life. Hopefully they soften their hearts to the message someday. We had a lesson planned with Sheri, but she didn't show, sadly. But she still has strong faith, sometimes she just has rough days. Other than that, we got a number and talked to Shane. He still won't give us his number, but maybe he might actually call us now. After that, we grinded some Facebook and then had a coordination meeting. Good day.

Today was another grind day. We had some studies and then did some landscaping with Richard, hopefully we can get to start teaching him and his family. We did a lot of walking out in the sun, and talked to some more nice people. We did some knocking, but no one was really home. But we had a good visit with Brother Saunders, he had some good insights. Something he said that I liked is that the reason we come to earth is so God can see who we really are, not just "yes-men" in heaven. The purpose of life is to see who we really are, and become who God wants us to become.

We had a good day, but still unsuccessful in finding anybody to teach. We did a bunch of walking, and had an unexpected opportunity to talk to Shane. We did make some more progress all around though. We had our member visit cancel tonight, and so we didn't have much to do because the Facebook has come to a screeching halt recently, because there are some changes happening between switching the content creation over to the members. So we felt pretty slothful, and we are going to do much better tomorrow to fulfill our schedule.

June 5, 2021

Today was a lot better than the past couple of days. After last night, we said a prayer looking for an answer on what we could do to fill our time. That prayer got answered very quickly. We had a mission wide Zoom call and they told us about a great new way to find people and reactivate members. What we do is find some less active members in a neighborhood, and then we talk to people as we walk through between those houses. We already got a couple of numbers from people and set up appointments with some less-actives. So I'm grateful for that inspired counsel from our mission leadership.

We had some good work the rest of the day, but sadly, we kind of had Sheri fall off the map again. Hopefully we can go by and see her and get things going again, because she was doing so well. But we had a good visit with President Haws, and he's a huge help in giving us names of less-actives to go see. The work keeps rolling forward.

Today we were able to get Ray to church, which is awesome because he doesn't like to come to church on fast Sunday's because he doesn't like to hear people whine haha. But it was a good testimony meeting, and there wasn't any whining. Sister Schmitter said that Ray was fasting, and when she came home from a trip, he was watching these Book of Mormon commentary things on his own. So that's awesome, if he keeps going like this, then it's just a matter of time before he recognizes the Spirit and gets baptized. Other than that, we had a pretty normal day and did some inactive contacting while street contacting. We also had a visit with the Wade's, a great family.
