Week 87: Oxnard

June 6, 2022

Quick one today. We had a fun Preparation Day, got to play some basketball and do some shopping. Having three of us makes shopping very efficient, with a lot more money to go around. We had some awesome lessons and stayed busy the entire night. One lesson was with Daniel, we're trying to help him see how much the Gospel can help his family. After that, we visited Sister Bailon, who is facing some hard things. It's always fulfilling to the Lord's instrument to bless someone else. We finished off the night with a visit with Mama Tessi. Still as sweet of a lady as the first time I met her.

We had MLC today, some great things were talked about. We have technically already had 4 MLC's this transfer, so this one was pretty relaxed. We reviewed our mission tour guidance and talked about the importance of bearing testimony. After MLC, we had a bunch of lessons, most of which were unplanned. Those lessons were with Socorro, Jesus, Norma, and Anna. I've been trying to be better at my meekness and love. I've gotten better at my teaching recently, and I hope that continues.

For the rest of the night we had to do some transfer boards, and try to work out some travel arrangements.

Today was very draining, but was good nonetheless. We had a bunch of Zoom meetings today, completely drained us for an unknown reason. I'm still trying to figure out why sitting and staring at a screen takes so much energy. We fit a little bit of studies in, but not much else. We were able to have lessons with Charlie and Roxanna after dinner. Roxanna is so awesome, she is better at living gospel principles than I am. Such a sweet lady, excited for her to progress even more.

We had a full personal study today, which was much-needed and well-enjoyed. I read President Nelson's talk about spiritual momentum. I loved learning how to regain my spiritual energy when I'm feeling spiritually drained. We had a lot of busy work to do, but we got it done and had some really good lessons. One of these was with the Grove family. We watched the DC temple tour video and testified of the blessings that come from being sealed as a family. I've been grateful for the chance to understand the power of a temple sealing, especially with my own family.
We also had a great lesson with Doris. Her heart has softened and she is learning more and more, starting to understand it. I keep learning that members make or break missionary work, and our members were a huge help today.

Today we went back up to Santa Barbara for a district council. First time I've been back in six months. It was great, I learned some great insights about Christlike attributes and how to improve my character.

From that point, we drove up to Lompoc to drop off a Covid test for Sister Bingham. Then we drove back and hit some pretty heavy traffic for a couple of hours. Totaled up driving about six hours today, but it's more bearable with two companions. We had some more great lessons, one with George, and one with Sister Siquedo.

Good day, dead tired again. The next week or so is going to be mayhem.

June 11, 2022

Had a good day, we were really, really busy. We started off the day with a walk day Zoom, and then planned some more transfers. After lunch at In 'n' Out and a visit with Brother Nikkos, some things with transfers switched up, and we did a little more unexpected adjustments.

Then we spent a bunch of time getting to inform the Zone leaders and some other people about the upcoming transfer. We are teaching a lot of really great people, and I'm glad to be able to be a part of so many people's progression.

June 12, 2022

We had a great day at church, Roxanna was able to attend. She said she liked it, and so we are excited to meet with her again. We had tons of Zoom trainings, because we needed to facilitate the discussions. After that, we had some visits to do. One of those was a visit with Susanna and Rosa, two nice ladies who like to come to church, that have special needs. I think God made it impossible to not love people that have special needs.

We had dinner also with the Veras', an awesome family from South Jordan. We think one of them will come to basketball tomorrow. After the departing missionaries bore their testimonies on Zoom, we are turning in for the night. Sad to see those missionaries go, especially Elder Sexton and Elder Marks. Thus begins another transfer.
