Week 79: Newbury Park

April 11, 2022

Great day, we started it off by having a super good breakfast at a restaurant called 'Eggs and Things', I had a super good country-fried steak. Before that, Elder Hales and I did a tag-team buzz cut on his head.

For our activity with the other district, we went to the Botanic Gardens on the other side of Thousand Oaks. It was a solid day, we went skating again, got some numbers of skaters there. We finished off the night with a couple of member visits, and we're off to another week. One of those visits was with the Merril's, they gave us cookies, cereal, and a dinner to cook later. They are so awesome.

A pretty typical Tuesday, we planned for our Zone Conference time this Thursday, I'll be giving a discussion on when we need to pass our friends off to the members, and when we should keep teaching them.

We had a lot of stop-by's to do, because it was colder today than usual, but still got a lot done. We focused a lot more on social media today than usual. We were blessed to have a short lesson with Rick today, we are hoping to get him back on track, and hopefully have him come to church Easter Sunday. We've been sharing the Easter video with all of our members, and committing them to share it. It is such a good video that brings the Spirit.

Today we had a good day, we had some typical studies, prepared our discussions for Conference tomorrow. We were able to fix a bike for James Storehouse today, ran and got some tubes to put in. We had a lesson with Hildegard, still a super nice lady with a lot of stories to tell. We're going by this coming Tuesday. A pretty uneventful day, but we were blessed to have a phone call with Brother Higgins and share a scripture with him. We did a lot of social media work today, hopefully the fruits of that will show soon.

We had Zone Conference today, it was a spiritual feast. One of my main takeaways was my need to plan out lessons more and really consider multiple angles of the teaching process. No matter how experienced you might think you are, you can always learn more if you listen with a humble heart. It was good to see fellow missionaries and hear their thoughts.

After Zone Conference, we had an awesome lesson with our friend Albrita, and her two crazy kids. Elder Hales was teaching the majority of the lesson while I kept the kids occupied. I've grown to love kids over the course of my mission, they're hilarious. It was a good evening as well, kept on the grind until we finished off with Facebook.

Had exchanges with the Agoura 1st Elders, I went with Elder Winn into our area. We were able to break up the day with some service for Brother Marshall, painting that railing has been fun, it's a stress reliever. We had some people we went by to visit, and we were able to run into our friend Mike again and start teaching him, it's just a matter of getting some sit-down lessons with him. We had a visit with the Parlees' tonight, and went to MOD pizza for dinner. It was just an all around fun day with Elder Winn. I've enjoyed my new scriptures, and I've been working on a new way to mark them.

April 16, 2022

It was a rollercoaster of a day, we were kind of all over the place. We did some gardening with Dawn, she's a sweet older, British sister of one of our members, and is an avid gardener, puts us to shame. We had a lot of weekly planning and other things to take care of, and that took up a lot of our time. After that, we went by the Boyce's. Their mom has been struggling with us and with the whole church thing, so we aren't really sure how to proceed. We had dinner with the Barrus' and then had an awesome lesson with our friend Nipom and his family. They've shown that they really want to meet with us, and are willing to set aside time to meet with us. For example, one of them was sick, so instead of canceling, they wanted to do a Zoom call. It was a great day, with ups and downs.

Easter Sunday, we had a great day of church, our friend Lynn was able to come with us, we think she liked it! Nipom and his family were trying to watch over YouTube, but sadly it wasn't working quite right. But they have been doing so good. We had dinner at the Maddox's, and they even had us stay for an Easter egg hunt afterwards. Then we had a really good visit with the Keyser's, with Elder and Sister Keyser visiting from Salem, Utah. We grinded some social media and kept things running, and finished the week strong. A lot of ups and downs, but this week we got to see the fruits of our labors. Blessings abound.
