Week 23: Morro Bay

March 15, 2021

Today was preparation day, so we took a trip to SLO to get our oil changed in the Equinox. Then we did some chores and headed to our district activity, which got rained out, so we played volleyball at the church instead. After that, we went shopping and had dinner. Then we did a lesson with Jeremy, and it went really well. He's had a rough time in the past, but he has a firm faith in Jesus Christ and how He has helped him get past some trials and turn his weaknesses into strengths. He's awesome, and we all connect well, so we are excited to keep him progressing.

We had a busy day today, and we had interviews, which went well. Then we were able to meet with Donald again. Meeting with him is such a faith builder, because he is a man of few words but his testimony is rock-solid. But he might have to go back into hospice for his leg. Other than that, I am just still truckin' along, staying on the grind. I'm always grateful for Elder Strauss and his curry-making ability, it makes for some good dinners.

Today we did service, and then we had a lesson with Tony. We extended an invitation to be baptized, and he said that he would pray about it and get back to us on Saturday when we meet again. Exciting stuff. Then we went to a pass of lesson with Emmerys and he's awesome, and he's in good hands with Elder Teeples and Elder Wardle. After that, we pretty much did finding for the rest of the day and then had Ward Correlation, and that was it. We've been scrambling around all night trying to find a special kind of recliner for Donald and having Sister Valerie order some Premier Protein for him so he can keep his muscle mass up and keep walking.

Today was good, we talked with Warren and he continues to have a lot of interesting questions and beliefs, but he just needs to read the Book of Mormon and feel the Spirit and then we can work with that. Then we had an exchange, and Elder Overson and I went contacting in stores again. But there weren't too many latinos anywhere. We also went to Downtown in SLO, so that's a fun place. After that we did a member visit with the Ruiz's, and they are a really nice family that helps a lot with the SLO Spanish group. After that, we did a Zone zoom call with someone from the Stake Presidency. And I can't believe the day is already over, that was fast.

We had district council today, and I gave a discussion on how and why we fellowship members when teaching people. It was a good council, Sister Gowans and Sister Vanderhoff and Elder Overson gave the other discussions. After that we did some studies and weekly planning. We visited Donald, and he is as elect as someone could be. He has such a strong testimony about Jesus Christ and how He has changed his life. When we asked him what he felt his purpose in life is, he said "To help others." Nothing else, just a simple testimony about his purpose. It was funny, we brought him some Premier Protein drinks to try and help him regain his strength, so he took one and chugged it in about 2.5 seconds. So we'll probably be getting him some more of those.

Later, we did a little bit of park contacting and got a number for somebody from Central Valley. Then we went store contacting and someone stopped us by saying, "Woah, are you on missions?" We talked to him a little bit, and we got his number and we'll try to talk to him later. After that, we did some member visits, and our day was over. We have awesome members here though, they are really missionary-minded and put in the work.

March 20, 2021

We didn't have service today for one of the first times, and so we finally got in a full study. After lunch, we had a lesson with Tony. In response to our invitation to be baptized, Tony pretty much said, "Yes, but let me check with my wife first." So that's exciting.

We went up to Cambria today to have lunch with Sister O'Shea, and afterwards we went contacting in a tiny town called San Simeon, where there wasn't a single soul outside. After that, we went back to Morro Bay and contacted literally everywhere we could. After that, we just did some Facebook and had a great time going crazy while we were at it. After that, I wrote in my journal and went to bed. The end.

March 21, 2021

Today was super busy, and we were very happy when Dan and Rebekah made it to church. They were even able to stay for Sunday school, which is awesome because that helped them connect with the members. After church, we did some studying and had a lesson with Warren. He's kind of hard-wired still, so as long as he keeps commitments and keeps praying about things, we can work with him and help him feel the Spirit. After that lesson, we had dinner with the Wittmeyer's in Cambria, and they're awesome. They're very missionary-minded, and they are very helpful to us and to the ward.

Later, we had a lesson with the Boyette's and we are just going to continue progressing them and helping Dan and Daniel make that commitment. Today I was really, really off, so I hope that doesn't happen again.
